Color Me Vibrant – Pigment is all the Rage for Spring Read more: Color Me Vibrant – Pigment is all the Rage for Spring | Makeup Tips

Blue is back – but not the Tammy Faye blue you may be picturing. Deep pigments keep your look from being too light and bright, while using the color on top of the lid as well as beneath takes the smoky-eye look to the next level.

The eighties revival continues, but in a completely new way with deep pigments that pop on their own and bring your eyes with them. From light blues with depth created via tones all the way to the deep indigo seen on the runway at the Baby Phat Spring 2010 show.

Translating a runway look to the office without looking like a raccoon requires some serious skill – or at least a great brush set. You may want to keep your look on the top lid alone instead of bringing it to the bottom in order to make the look daytime appropriate. If you want to bring the drama, you can enhance your eye with the bottom layer in the cab from work to your after-work party destination. If you do this, make sure you aren’t taking a bumpy road or you might find you look like you have a black eye instead of the trendy look you were going for.

As with any dark trend, making sure the tone on your inside eye corners is a little bit lighter or brighter than the outside is seriously important. This is the best way to avoid looking like you got beat up on the way to your destination.

  • Start with an angled brush in order to apply your blue with precision. Make sure your angled brush doesn’t have any stray hairs, if it does you may want to replace your brush with a higher quality model in order to get your makeup on straight.
  • Next, extend your angle past the outside corner of your eye and bring the lines from over as well as under your eye to a point about an eighth to a quarter of an inch out. How far out your point goes is really up to you – the farther out you go, the more dramatic your look.
  • Get out your soft brush and a light color eye shadow or shimmer powder in order to lighten up your inside eye corner area. After applying, use the brush to blur the angle of your dark blue shadow in order to keep the look from crossing the line from dramatic to hard and alien.
