An easier way to get great skin is to eat healthy. Doing so improves all parts of the body, and some foods are especially beneficial to skin healthy.

Vitamin A is one of the most important nutrients for skin health, and one of the best sources of this is low-fat dairy products. Vitamin A can also be found in certain vegetables, such as carrots, but some health conditions impede the body's ability to convert the chemicals from these foods into vitamin A, whereas it's easier to get it from dairy products. High levels of selenium protect skin from sun damage and oxidative damage that increase the risk of cancer. Whole-wheat products also substitute less healthy grains that affect insulin levels and cause inflammation related to break outs.

Berries, like blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries, are high in antioxidants. Antioxidants protect cells from damage caused by free radicals, such as those formed by sun exposure. This kind of protection prevents premature aging. Also look for other foods high in antioxidants, such as artichokes, beans, and prunes.

Cell health is vital to skin health, and one of the most important parts of the cell to keep healthy is the cell membrane. These act as protective barriers and transport nutrients in and waste out. The membrane also holds moisture in, which then keeps skin moisturized and younger looking. Fatty acids are essential to good cell membranes and can be found in a variety of foods, the best of which are fish, walnuts, and flax seed oil.

Other oils are also good for skin because they keep skin lubricated. The best kinds of oil for skin are those labeled cold pressed, expeller pressed, or extra virgin. Other oils that are commercially processed have solvents added and are heated to high temperatures that kill important nutrients.

Water is vital for skin hydration, which keeps skin healthy and youthful. Water also helps cells move nutrients in and toxins out, and helps skin sweat more effectively. Water is most beneficial when it is pure and clean. Most other beverages do not have the same benefits.

However, green tea is perhaps the best thing you can drink for skin health. It strengthens the cell membrane and reduces the risk of ultraviolet light damage, reducing the possibility of skin cancer. In addition, the polyphenols in green tea have anti-inflammatory properties that can prevent blemishes.

Healthy foods are beneficial to the body as a whole, but healthy skin is especially important because it is the most visible part of the body. Science has shown that these foods are particularly advantageous to skin health, and all are cheaper than expensive skin care products and procedures so they are definitely worth a try.
