Do Genetics Determine How Beautiful You Can Be?

Are you a control freak? If you like to be in control of everything around you, you might be frustrated by your genes. They are one thing you cannot control no matter what you do. Mom gave you some of her genes and Dad gave you some of his. Those random bits gave you the body and the facial features that you have.

It can be a little frustrating if you don't like your nose or your hips because you can't do very much to change them. You may be able to gain or lose weight, but sometimes genetics can even stop you from being able to do that.

Sometimes, people try to get around their genetics by purposely changing their appearance in noticeable ways. Makeup can sometimes cover skin irregularities, and some areas of the body can easily be covered by clothing. Hair color and eye color can be changed temporarily, and of course, hair styles can change a person's appearance too.

If someone wants to more significantly and permanently change their appearance, they may be able to get plastic surgery done. Plastic surgeries can alter facial features in subtle ways, widening eyes or slimming a nose. Small fat deposits can be removed through liposuction, and breasts can be reshaped and boosted with artificial implants.

Plastic surgery can change appearance, but most of the changes made are only superficial. That means that you mostly look the same, even after you have invested a lot of money in surgery. Getting superficial changes usually doesn't fix people's deep feelings of insecurity about their bodies and their beauty.

Although we live in a day when it is possible to change our bodies in many ways, doing so is not the only way to improve how you feel about yourself. Just because you don't like all of the features that your genes have given you doesn't mean that there is nothing attractive about you. Rather than trying to "fix" your appearance, you might want to take a closer look at yourself. Certainly, some of your features are attractive.

Once you have figured out what features you have that are attractive, you can get to work accentuating those features. Forget the features that you don't like and be happy about the attractive ones. Your genes are not your enemies, and you can always find something beautiful about yourself that you can show off to others.
