Psoriasis, Sex and Beauty - A Different View of Psoriasis

There are different ways of looking at psoriasis, sex and beauty. A 2007 study was published in the journal Dermatology. Almost half of people who have psoriasis, experience problems with sexual desire and/or ability. Time to make lemonade out of lemons.

It's natural to feel unattractive when you have psoriasis. Don't be critical and judgmental of yourself. Your skin condition should not control you. Take control your reaction to your condition.

Try to develop an outlook of acceptance, solidarity and love for your present body. Be confident with your body as it is and love yourself as you are. A confident attitude is attractive and sexy. It's nice to enjoy yourself no matter what has happened. Focus on the 'right now' instead of the past and future. What are the gifts that your illness has brought to your life? Like patience, being OK with not being 'perfect', focusing on what's really important in life.

Don't let other peoples opinions determine how you live your life. Your partner may be sexually oriented to some aspects of your psoriasis. He may enjoy touching and kissing it. He may find the strange, offbeat, and sublime beauty in it. Other people may label him as having a fetish. Question his motives. Assume he is deviant in his sexual relations.

Appreciate your partner who is with you, who loves and accepts you, no matter what. Talk about what you like as well as what you do not like. Ask your partner what he would like and what he does not like. Be grateful for your partners intimacy, arousal, acceptance and loving gestures. Be grateful for the amazing connection you experience with your partner.

Reinvent your idea of psoriasis, sex and beauty. To be perfect, simply is not human. There are freckles, scars, moles, pimples, uneven skin tone, and other blemishes. The effects of your skin condition is simply real.

There may be times when you are experiencing too much pain or you are simply too tired for sexual intercourse. Talk with your partner about his feelings and non-intercourse techniques of lovemaking.

Use your other senses to make sex more enjoyable. For example, have satin sheets on the bed, light some scented candles or play music. Depending on the type of psoriasis, consider massage therapy. Coconut, grapeseed, almond oils, vaseline or with unscented cream, may be options.

Focus on sensations instead of performance. Men, let go of performance expectations. Women, let go of attachment to outcomes. Let go of past experiences. Focus on the present, sensual moment. Instead of striving, allow orgasms to occur.

Don't be critical and judgmental of yourself. Consider the possibility of re-imagining your skin condition as sexy. Redefine your perception of your psoriasis, sex and beauty. It may be a key to living healthy and happy
