  • Hormonal imbalances- if your body is either producing too many or not enough hormones, the result can be a hormonal imbalance, ultimately resulting in acne.
  • The onset of puberty- When most people start puberty they will experience some form of acne or another. The changing of hormones in the body is the main cause
  • Genetics- Chances are that if you both of your parents have severe acne, then you will have acne too. However, this is not always the case. Some people whose parents had wonderful skin passed on horrible skin genes to their offspring
  • Some forms of medications or steroids
  • Stress

Acne Myths

Since there are many forms of acne and no definite cure, many myths about acne still exist today. Many people believe that acne is caused by uncleanliness. The fact of the matter is that no matter how clean you are, how many times a day you shower, or how often you wash your face, you can still get acne. Acne has nothing to do with uncleanliness or not washing their face enough. In fact, over washing of the face can actually make your acne condition worse. Many people also believe that acne is triggered by eating certain kinds of food such as chocolate or greasy food. Eating healthy or unhealthy foods will not worsen or better your acne condition. Dermatologists are convinced that there is not link between the foods you eat and the pimples that appear on your face.
