Jasmine: Soothes and Rejuvenates
Widely used in Asian countries, jasmine essential oils have been used to treat psychological and psychosomatic problems since ancient times. "What makes jasmine an important ingredient in massage oils is that it has a sedative as well as an uplifting effect on emotions," says Delhi-based flower therapist Dr Malti Khaitan. This apart, jasmine oils when combined with patchouli also forms a very good base for anti-ageing night creams. "Fresh jasmine flowers contain a high amount of etheric oil which is believed to have follicle-boosting and skin nourishing properties," explains Mumbai-based dermatologist Dr Aparna Santhanam. Besides, these flowers also contain benzilic acetate, benzilic alcohol, indoles, etc. making them great aphrosidiacs. Jasmine-based creams are best used at night because of their sedative properties.
