Sally Beauty

How it all began

Sally Beauty Supply began as one store in New Orleans in 1964. Through a series of acquisitions and new store openings in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, and ongoing, the company now owns and operates more than 2,100 stores throughout the United States and Puerto Rico and more than 3,000 worldwide.

The phenomenal growth of Sally Beauty Supply has been guided by Michael H. Renzulli, president and chief executive officer. A trained pharmacist, he spent his youth and the beginning of his career in his father’s Philadelphia drugstore. He joined a major package goods manufacturer and, in 1972, took over management of Sally Beauty Supply. His ability to successfully blend consumer and professional distribution has been responsible for Sally’s exceptional growth.

Because Renzulli keeps Sally Beauty on the cutting edge of new trends and technology, salon professionals look to Sally for information as well as product. At the same time, consumers can find the same products their hair stylists and nail technicians use, which allows them to maintain their professionally created look between salon visits.

International Expansion

In 1987, Sally became the only international beauty supply company when it purchased the largest beauty supply organization in the United Kingdom, where currently more than 175 Sally stores exist.

In 1994, Sally announced a joint venture agreement with C&C, Cash & Carry Beauty Supply, which allowed the chain to enter the Japanese market. Sally Beauty Supply now operates 32 stores in Japan. Six years later, Sally Beauty expanded to Puerto Rico. Today, there are 29 extremely successful stores in this country.
